The Kerelaw Scandal

Claims for financial compensation by complainants

99% of the allegations that have been made by former pupils have been born out of the prospect of receiving compensation. When the Council started the investigation into Kerelaw, it came to light that certain members of staff were telling pupils that they would receive compensation if they made allegations of abuse against staff members. The police also told ex-pupils that they would receive compensation and, the worse the allegation was, the more money they would be entitled to.

The law states that a person can only receive or claim for compensation within three years of the 'event' having taken place. However, the Scottish Executive have chosen to disregard this law and have given the go ahead for local authorities Insurers to start paying out thousand of pounds to these 'victims'.

Contrary to what Glasgow City Council has been saying in the press, the Council does not pay out any money in compensation. This is dealt with by their Insurers, and many of the 'allegations' date back to before Glasgow City Council's ownership of the school.

Now the civil actions have begun, 'allegations' that were laughed out of court have been picked up by unscrupulous lawyers, safe in the knowledge that they will win and receive hefty payout.

When you stop the gift of compensation and replace it with therapy and counselling, only then will the majority of false allegations cease.
